Informazioni di prodotto e di utilizzo
The digital version of the Moisture Encounter: non-destructive dual-depth measurement (9/30 mm) on timber and building materials, built-in ambient hygrometer with psychrometric values, infrared thermometer for surface temperature, inputs for pin probes and in-situ RH probes. Over 500 timber species in memory, Bluetooth for the Tramex Meters app. Made in Ireland, 1-year warranty.
What the Tramex MEX5 is
The Moisture Encounter MEX5 brings four measuring modes together in a single instrument: the non-destructive impedance detection typical of the Encounter series, pin measurement for the moisture content of timber, the ambient hygrometer with dew point and enthalpy calculation, and in-situ relative humidity measurement with the optional Hygro-i2 probes to ASTM F2170 and BS 8201/8203. The large backlit digital display shows the main reading and, at the bottom, the ambient conditions in real time. It is the instrument for those who need to document, not just detect.
Who it is for
- Surveyors and building diagnostics technicians: a single instrument for non-invasive investigation, pin checks and ambient conditions.
- Water-damage restoration companies: adjustable reference baseline and drying target, monitoring with reports from the app.
- Parquet fitters and installers: timber %MC with automatic correction for species and temperature, expected moisture content (EMC) based on the environment.
- Laboratories and quality control: pin measurement on timber, OSB, plywood and plasterboard with preset international standards.
- Existing ME5 users who need numerical data, data storage and external probes.
Why choose it
- Four modes in one instrument. Non-destructive (NDT), pin, hygrometer/psychrometrics and in-situ RH: you switch from one to another by connecting the probe, which is recognised automatically.
- Digital dual depth. Standard scale to 30 mm and Shallow Depth to 9 mm, to separate surface moisture from moisture within the body of the material.
- Over 500 timber species. Selection of the species or international standard, specific gravity adjustment and automatic timber temperature correction for pin measurement.
- Built-in hygrometer and infrared thermometer. Relative humidity, ambient temperature, dew point, humidity ratio, Delta T and enthalpy; surface temperature read without contact by the IR sensor on the base.
- Baseline and drying target. You store the reading of an area that is certainly dry and the instrument shows how far each point deviates from the reference.
- Bluetooth and the Tramex Meters app. Moisture maps, georeferenced photos with the reading overlaid, charts and shareable reports.
How it works
In non-destructive mode, the three conductive rubber electrodes generate a low-frequency electric field in the material; the detected current is inversely proportional to the impedance, which depends on the water content. In pin mode, the instrument measures the electrical resistance between the two pins driven into the timber and converts it into %MC according to the selected species. The built-in hygrometer continuously samples the air; with the Hygro-i2 probe inserted in a hole in the slab, the equilibrium relative humidity of the concrete is obtained.

Selection guide: when to choose the MEX5
The MEX5 is the digital version for wood and building materials: display with numerical values, built-in hygrometer for ambient temperature and humidity, infrared thermometer, inputs for in-situ RH probes and pin probes, and over 500 selectable wood species with automatic temperature correction.
Choose it if you need to document measurements with numerical values and ambient conditions, measure the moisture content of wood accurately or carry out in-situ tests.
Consider another model if: a quick dial reading is enough for you (ME5); you work on concrete (CME5 / CMEX5); you carry out marine surveys (Skipper 5).
If in doubt, contact us: our technical support will recommend the right model for your application.
Integration and programming
From the MEX5 menu you select the measuring mode, wood species and units; external probes (in-situ RH, pin) are connected to the dedicated inputs and are recognised by the instrument.
The Bluetooth connection with the free Tramex Meters app (iOS and Android) lets you record readings with date, time and location, create moisture maps and PDF inspection reports, and archive inspections and compare them over time.
For standing measurements on floors and screeds: E5-HBS telescopic extension. If you need to feed the reports into a company document workflow, our technical team will help you set it up.
Calibration and repair
The MEX5 is factory-calibrated and needs no adjustment. Quickly check its response with the CALBOXME5 calibration check box; the MESP electrode protectors protect the electrodes. The AP-ME accessory set combines the check box, extension, protectors and carrying case.
Service: for periodic verification with a report, electrode replacement or any repair, RODER S.r.l. – INNOVACHECK division handles the service in Italy in cooperation with Tramex. Contact us, stating the model and serial number.
