In-situ concrete moisture probe Tramex CMP “The Determinator” – for CME5 and CMEX5

With the CMP probe, the CME5 or CMEX5 concrete moisture meter reads the moisture content within the body of the slab, to a depth of 100 mm, in a 19 mm hole: together with the non-destructive test of the first 20 mm it forms the Tramex Unified Test Method, with all readings expressed in %MC. No batteries, no calibration, reusable probes.

Tramex CME5, Tramex CMEX5. The probe does not work on its own: it requires an instrument from the CME range.

What it is for

The non-destructive test measures the surface layer of the slab; to find out how much moisture is in the body of the pour, a depth measurement is needed. The CMP probe is inserted in a hole drilled in advance with a 19 mm bit (the same diameter as RH tests to ASTM F2170), the CME meter is placed on the probe cradle and reads the moisture content in %MC to 100 mm. The advantage over other methods is that surface and depth are expressed in the same unit, without having to compare heterogeneous data. The probes are reusable, extendable and replaceable; no sleeves or batteries are needed.

How it works

The CME meter, pressed onto the probe cradle, generates a low-frequency alternating electric field between its own electrodes and the probe inserted in the hole; the current flowing through the field is inversely proportional to the impedance of the concrete, which depends on the water content. The instrument converts it into %MC on the concrete scale; for other cementitious materials the reference scale and the CM scales are used.
